Keep Your Blooms Happy & Healthy! 🌸
Â
Orchids are stunning, delicate, and surprisingly easy to care for once you know what they love. Whether you're a new orchid owner or looking to brush up on your plant-parenting skills, here’s a simple guide to keep your orchid thriving — from watering tips to post-bloom care.
Â
Watering: Less Is More
Orchids prefer to dry out between waterings — in fact, too much water is the most common mistake!
-
Water with 1/3 cup every 12–14 days.
-
If the moss or bark still feels moist, skip the watering — your orchid is good for now.
-
Remember: Orchids tolerate dryness better than sogginess. Root rot is a real risk with overwatering.
Light: Bright, But Not Too Bright
Orchids love light — but not the harsh kind.
-
Place them where there’s bright to medium indirect light.
-
Avoid direct sun, which can burn the leaves.
-
A north or east-facing window works beautifully!
Temperature Tips
Orchids like it warm — but their needs shift a bit depending on whether they’re blooming or not.
-
During blooming: Keep them in a room that’s 70°–80°F.
-
After blooming: Slightly warmer temps around 75°–85°F help support healthy leaf and root development.
After Blooming: What to Do Next
Once those gorgeous blooms have faded, it’s time for a little TLC to prepare your orchid for its next growth cycle.
-
Cut the stem just above the node where the first flower bloomed.
-
Fertilize once a month with an orchid-specific fertilizer.
-
Repot after blooming, ideally in fresh orchid bark or moss to give the roots room to breathe.
🌼 Keep It Going!
With just a bit of attention, orchids can bloom again and again. Think of them as the elegant low-maintenance friends of the plant world — quiet, pretty, and full of surprises when treated right.
